Build a website from Scratch

To build a website, you will need two things: a domain name and a hosting server.

What is a domain name? It is what identifies you on the internet. It usually associates with com, net, org. For example, the domain for this website is “”. When people enters your domain on a internet browser, it will go to your website.

Usually you can register a domain name for a year with less than $10. It is recommended to get your domain name as soon as possible before someone else gets it. Many people actually made profits just by registering domain names and selling them later for much higher prices. To keep your domain name, you will need to renew it every year or you can state you want to keep your domain name for x number of years when you are purchasing. You usually get a discount for that. You can also set your domain to auto renew, so it will automatically renew at the end of each year in case you forgot to do so.

Godaddy is the most reliable place to buy domains from. They are the number 1 domain name registrar company in the world today.

If you can’t get the domain name you searched for, go for an alternative.

For example if “” is gone, go for “”

Once you get your domain name, you will need a hosting server, a place where you store your web pages online.

There are many free web hosts like blogger, which is currently run by google. You can add custom domains to your blogger acount instead of using the “” They will store all of your web pages for free. But of course there are disadvantages. For example, if you read blogger’s term of service, blogger has the right to remove your blog at any time! Imagine of all of your months or even years of hard work go down the drain. I know many very famous websites running on blogger got their blogs deleted. They were ranking on page 1 on google with very competitive keywords. After years of hard work, their sites ended up getting deleted. It’s just not cool!

That’s why I strongly suggest to self host your websites. There are many hosting companies that charge less than $5/month to host your website depending on which plan you use. Godaddy also offers web hosting services. They have three different plans. For their current promotion, the economy plan only costs around $2/month which gives you 10GB of space and unlimited bandwidth. You need to purchase it for at least 3 month to take advantage of this offer.

One thing worth to mention is that you can host more than 1 website using one hosting plan, as long as those websites do not go over the memory limit.

Once you purchase a hosting plan: Economy, Deluxe or Ultimate, you can add a domain to your hosting server very easily. Since you purchased your domain at Godaddy also, the DNS will be automatically set up for you.

If you are lazy or don’t know much about website design. Godaddy also offers Web hosting with pre built templates. All you need to do is fill in the contents. You don’t need to know any html or xml programming language. If you know how to use microsoft word, then you should have no problem with this.

Also these pre-built websites plans already come with hosting, so you don’t need to pay extra for hosting fees. If you want to try these pre-built websites hosting,
you can sign up Here for about $5 per month.

Once you have a website, earn money online becomes much easier.

The post enhances my knowledge about the use of domains.

Thank you, it was really informative and useful as well. $5/month is expensive at this time, they should cut it to cost less. Because of the amount some blogger leave them no choice but to pick hosting sites who offer free in expense of deleting their webpage at any time if they want. Thank you I’m not aware they do that. I often overlooked the “terms and condition” and just click the “I agree” button. Great work.
